REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT IN THE U.S. IS AT DIRE RISK. Since taking office, Trump has launched ongoing attacks on our system of refugee resettlement and drastically reduced the number of refugee admissions. Last month, reports surfaced that administration officials are pressing to zero out refugee resettlement in 2020. This would result in a near total refugee ban, collapsing the U.S. Refugee Resettlement program and the infrastructure of humanitarian protection this country has built over decades—all during the worst global refugee crisis in history.
At a time when the federal outlook for refugee resettlement is bleak, a few states have stepped up for the first time to protect refugee resettlement, directly funding the agencies under threat.
This did not happen by accident.
On Friday, September 6, join a We Are All America webinar and learn about two successful organizing campaigns that led to state victories in New York and Oregon. Discover the challenges, obstacles, tactics and tools employed by organizers and coalitions, and how they won millions of dollars for refugee services, each with overwhelming bipartisan support.
Panelists Include:
– David Dyssegaard Kallick, Deputy Director, Fiscal Policy Institute
– Betsy Plum, Vice President of Policy, The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC)
– Kayse Jama, Executive Director, Unite Oregon
– Sushma Raghavan, Field Director, Unite Oregon
– Matthew Westerbeck, Catholic Charities of Oregon
