FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 8, 2021 CONTACT: Kelsey Parsons | (347) 527-0969 | [email protected] Creating Communities To Help Afghan Evacuees Thrive In America NATIONWIDE -To support Afghan evacuees being resettled in the U.S., We Are All America and partners* have launched a guide providing tips to help local governments create an equitable and welcoming environment in their communities. The guide offers four tangible strategies to support refugees and help them integrate into American society at the local level. It includes tips on how to create a multi-sector rapid response group to leverage local resources to quickly respond to urgent needs; how to build a ‘We Welcome Fund’ to raise and distribute resources needed to support refugees, immigrants, and service providers; how to shift the narrative around refugees and immigrants by reinforcing welcoming as a core value of a community; and how to change policies at the local and federal level to support Afghan arrivals. “Communities across the country are stepping up to welcome Afghan evacuees fleeing their home country. This is a unique moment to ensure that Afghan arrivals can thrive in their new communities, while also reinforcing the principle that we are nation of welcome in which people seek refuge and they can rest assured that there is someone looking out for them,” said Basma Alawee, national campaign manager at We Are All America. “We hope this guide will help community members and local leaders strategize around how to assist incoming Afghans, while recognizing the importance of supporting these vulnerable groups fleeing the Taliban for the safety of America.” *Toolkit partners: We Are All America, National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA), Welcoming America, Cities For Action, Cities For Citizenship and Refugee Advocacy Lab. ### We Are All America is a refugee organizing alliance housed under the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA).
