The United States has a rich history of being a humanitarian leader in the global community, and of welcoming refugees to rebuild their lives here with dignity and safety. Since its inception 41 years ago, the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program has resettled more than three million refugees and refugees are integral to our nation’s cultural and economic fabric, as business owners, workers, faith leaders, teachers, elected officials, artists and community builders. During this unique year of crisis, refugees have also served as frontline workers, with 176,000 of us working in the healthcare field and 175,000 working as part of the food supply chain.
To honor refugees and asylees in our communities, please join us for “#RestoringWelcome,” a special Refugee Matters series leading up to World Refugee Day on June 20, 2021, where refugee and asylee leaders from a diverse range of populations will share their history and lived experiences. Series sessions will air live on Wednesdays at 7pm Eastern.
The series will be dedicated specifically to uplifting the voices of the individuals who are often unheard, including Asian/Pacific Islander refugees, asylees and asylum seekers, LGBTQ refugees, unaccompanied minors, Black refugees, and stateless persons. On the year of the 70th Anniversary of the Refugee Convention, we invite you to learn from their stories, and find out how you can support the US in #RestoringWelcome across the nation for World Refugee Day 2021.
